On Saturday, July 6, a group of Celebration residents headed over to Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg to watch the Tampa Bay Rays duke it out with the New York Yankees. Having grown up in St. Petersburg myself, this was a wonderful opportunity for me to support my hometown team.

The Celebration Foundation so graciously gave game attendees the option to split the cost of a van, so many of us did not have to deal with the I-4 traffic ourselves, which was much appreciated! Plus, since we were a group, we got discount tickets at $35 each! The seats were located behind third base above the walkway, which were great…except for the fact I’m a Rays fan and we were sitting in the Yankees fans section.

The game was definitely a nail biter with the Rays hitting a home run, then the Yankees hitting a home run, and by the bottom of the ninth inning, they were tied. Luckily for myself and the other Rays fans in our group, the Rays hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. I think we were all glad that the game didn’t have to go into extra innings!

This game was a special one for me because I grew up going to Rays games, but I had never seen them win a game in person before. With our free Rays baseball hats in tow, our group from Celebration left the game ecstatic (well, most of us). Regardless of which team we were rooting for, we all agreed that we had a great time, and this was a great opportunity to get to know our neighbors.
