Something new to Celebration K-8 this year is the addition of a before-school science club! Serious About Science (SAS) was created by Celebration K-8 teacher, Holly Terry, in partnership with Celebration Foundation’s Women’s Initiative Nurturing Girls’ Strength (WINGS) program. The club is for 3rd and 4th graders and is designed to get students interested in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math).

Over 60 students applied, but unfortunately, only 24 students can fit in the classroom. Activities that students have completed in the first semester included making their own pop-up book, coding robots to take specific actions, using milk to make hardened shapes, making terrariums, building boats to hold weight and not sink, and more! Activities are designed to be hands-on and fun! In addition to the before-school club, SAS also hosted a Science Night for 3rd and 4th graders. WonderWorks Orlando brought out their bed of nails and Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures brought out their “enviroscapes,” while volunteers manned various other stations. SAS is looking forward to another great semester full of scientific adventures!
