The Women’s Initiative Nurturing Girls’ Strength (WINGS) Power Lunch on January 31 was a bittersweet one. We had to say goodbye to WINGS chair, Eileen Crawford, as she moves on to a new chapter in her life. Eileen was one of the founders of WINGS back in 2013. Many of the original founders of WINGS joined us for this lunch to help honor Eileen for her many, many hours of service dedicated to this program.
At the lunch, we asked students to think of women who exemplify WINGS’ theme this year—CLICK (confidence, leadership, initiative, courage, and kindness). Many great answers were discussed, but we all agreed that Eileen exemplifies them all! Eileen is a licensed mental health counselor who met with the school counselors at Celebration K-8 once a month to discuss any issues that the counselors have been noticing come up with students at the school. From there, unique curriculum was devised for WINGS’ monthly Power Lunches put on for middle schoolers at Celebration K-8. Eileen said that she remembered middle school being a very lonely time for her, and her goal with this program was to let middle schoolers know they are not alone and that they should have the confidence to do whatever they dream of.
A very special thank you to Celebration Town Tavern for catering the lunch with delicious pasta, meatballs, salad, and rolls! And thank you to the original WINGS founders who were able to join us for this special lunch! Eileen will certainly be missed, but we wish Eileen great success in her future endeavors!
Celebration Foundation’s WINGS program was created to explore ways in which girls and women can reach their highest potential. Goal setting, leadership qualities, and positive self-image are some of the topics explored through Power Lunches, done in partnership with Celebration K-8 School, and regional events.
