Program OverviewWings Power Lunch

Women’s Initiative Nurturing Girls’ Strength – WINGS –
took flight in November 2013 when a group of women came together in Celebration to share concerns about the onslaught of negative media and role models influencing girls and young women. We discussed what kinds of messages we want to share with them as they prepare for their future. We vowed to take action to lift them to be courageous in reaching for their dreams and fearless in pursuing them.

Our Mission

To inspire and empower girls and women to soar to their highest potential.

Program Details

In 2014, WINGS partnered with school counselors at Celebration K-8 School to offer monthly “Power Lunches” for middle school students to talk about the challenges that girls face every day, and how they can reach out and help each other through them. Topics discussed at these Power Lunches include self-love, being fearless in pursuing leadership positions, positive uses of social media, and many more.

At the end of each school year, we have a “Power Breakfast” with all of the middle school students who have regularly participated in Power Lunches. At our Power Breakfast, we typically have a guest speaker who focuses on empowering young girls through a particular theme. Topics have included women in politics, women in the news media, and women in STEM. The goal of these Power Breakfasts is to get young girls to think more positively about their future and to think about entering careers that are not traditionally seen as being something that women do.

In the 2019-2020 school year, in an effort to get more girls interested in STEM, as well as bring more hands-on science activities to youth, Celebration Foundation partnered with Celebration K-8 School to start Serious About Science (SAS). SAS is a before-school club for 3rd and 4th graders to perform various hands-on science activities. SAS also hosts periodic Science Nights in partnership with local STEM organizations at Celebration K-8 for students.
