Celebration Lifelong Learning is very excited to kick off the 2023 Spring season on January 24 with a special evening lecture by Smithsonian Distinguished Scholar and Ambassador-at-Large, Dr. Richard Kurin. Dr. Kurin is an anthropologist and a member of the Smithsonian’s senior leadership team. The lecture, titled Saving Cultural Heritage in Crisis: From Haiti and Hurricanes, Iraq to Ukraine, highlights the role the Smithsonian plays as a leader responding to national and international cultural crises caused by natural disaster and human conflict. This not-to-be-missed lecture will be held at the Community Presbyterian Church, Tuesday, January 24, 7 pm, and is open to the public.

In a first for Lifelong, we are offering a new course for homeschool families, parents, caregivers, grandparents and others who want to build literacy skills in early learners. Reading Together: Build Early Literacy Skills and Have Fun While Doing It is de-signed to teach skills to help prepare preschool age children for reading success and literacy development. The course will be taught by Dr. Miriam Ortiz, an educational consultant and executive director for the Division of Learning Disabilities for the Council for Exceptional Children.

The Spring 2023 session begins the first week of February with a wide variety of courses, lectures and clubs offered in three sessions, February, March and April. All courses are held in three class sessions, lectures are given weekly, and clubs meet once a month. While most courses are now in person, we continue to offer several courses and lectures on Zoom.

The start of a new year brings promise, anticipation and a time to make plans for the year ahead. Make the most of 2023 by participating in Celebration Lifelong Learning’s Spring term. Where else can you be part of an extraordinary enrichment program de-signed to expand your mind and satisfy your creative urges at such a reasonable price? The Spring catalog will be released on the Lifelong website on January 16 and registration begins January 23. Get ready to visit Lifelong’s website and plan your schedule.
